The story of Smart Home Swiss SA began in 2002, long before the term “smart home” had become established in residential construction. At the time, the focus was on high-end home cinema, multiroom and media control systems for exclusive homes. The technology was powerful, but complex: server racks with numerous components, kilometres of cabling and individually programmed user interfaces were part of everyday work.
In the very first years, fully custom-developed touch panel interfaces were created. Each user interface was tailored to the respective building and made it possible to centrally control lighting, music, video, shading and climate. What seems self-evident today was a technological pioneering achievement in the early 2000s.
With each project, not only did the technology evolve, but so did the understanding of how people want to interact with building technology. The user interfaces became simpler, more intuitive and more strongly aligned with residents’ everyday lives. At the same time, the number of devices required was significantly reduced. Where entire server racks with audio, video and control components used to be necessary, compact, high-performance systems now perform the same tasks.
In the years that followed, the company delivered more than 1,000 projects in the areas of smart home, multimedia and building automation. The experience gained from these projects formed the basis for developing its own platform.
In 2019, the decision was made to combine all experience from almost two decades of development into a completely new solution: AMIKA. The goal was to develop a smart home platform that is not only powerful, but above all easy to install, intuitive to operate and maintainable over the long term.
As early as 2020, the first AMIKA installations went into operation. Since then, the platform has been continuously developed further and successfully deployed in numerous residential developments as well as single-family homes. Today, more than 500 AMIKA systems are already installed in the field.
Another milestone followed in 2025 with the establishment of a nationwide distribution network through leading electrical wholesalers such as Otto Fischer, Sonepar and Elektro-Material. This made the technology available for the first time on a broad scale to electrical installation companies throughout Switzerland.
With PORTO, the new fully IP-based smart intercom, the next chapter begins in 2026. Building on more than twenty years of experience, Smart Home Swiss SA combines building automation, door communication and energy management on a single platform. All software is developed in Switzerland, all communication services are operated via Swiss data centres, and the solutions are consistently designed for professional residential developments and long-term real estate projects.
Today, Smart Home Swiss SA stands for over 20 years of experience, several hundred completed projects and a clear vision: building automation does not have to be complicated – it must be reliable, intuitive and future-ready.
