Did you know that you can optimize energy consumption with Smart Home?
On the wall panel of the Amika Smart Home control center, you can view your household’s current electricity consumption and react to consumption peaks through changes in behavior – the same applies, by the way, to heat consumption for heating as well as hot and cold water consumption.
In the following article, we explain how you can use the information from your Smart Home control panel to optimize energy consumption.
THE ESSENTIALS IN BRIEF:
You can also use the Amika Smart Home control center as a Smart Home energy consumption display and view previous and current consumption values for electricity, heating, and water.
Opportunities for optimizing energy consumption arise in particular through reduced heating during absences, the economical use of energy-intensive appliances, fewer baths, and shorter showers.
Cold water consumption can also be reduced to conserve resources, for example by using a rain barrel for watering plants.
Thanks to the visibility of current consumption data for electricity, heating, and water, residents can react immediately to consumption peaks by adjusting their behavior, thereby optimizing energy consumption in the long term.
The Amika panel from Smart Home Swiss serves not only to control building and home technology but also for monitoring energy consumption. In interaction with the Energio data collector from Smart Home Swiss, consumption data for electricity, heating, hot water, and cold water are clearly displayed on the Amika wall panel. Residents can read and evaluate both current and previous consumption.
The Amika wall panel is permanently mounted on the wall in the apartment. Unlike a smartphone, which can sometimes be misplaced, you always know where the Amika panel is. Here you can read more about the Amika wall panel and its function as an all-in-one Smart Home control center.
The Energio data collector, from which the Amika panel receives consumption values, is an M-Bus master that collects real-time consumption data from electricity, hot water, cold water, and heat meters, which can then be read on the Amika panel. Learn more about the Energio data collector here.
What is visible can also be specifically changed. This motto can also be applied to Smart Home energy consumption optimization. Thanks to the display of consumption data on the Amika wall panel, residents can react immediately to consumption peaks in electricity, heating, hot water, and cold water consumption.
Residents can, for example, reduce electricity consumption if they notice that it is particularly high at the moment. Residents may not have been aware that they were currently using a very energy-intensive device, such as a hairdryer or an iron.
If you have access to a photovoltaic system, you can specifically coordinate electricity consumption with the times when solar energy is available, i.e., use the washing machine and dishwasher during the day and also charge the electric vehicle during the day. Alternatively, you can use these devices at night if a solar storage battery is available that still has sufficient capacity. In a multi-family house, the targeted use of available solar energy currently still represents a challenge; however, Smart Home Swiss is already working on a solution.
The evaluation of the heat consumption of the heating system may show, for example, that you should set the target room temperature lower when you are on vacation. However, the room temperature must not be too low to avoid frost damage and mold formation. The lower the temperature, the less moisture the air can absorb, which leads to higher humidity and thus increases the risk of mold.
Regarding hot water consumption, you can, for example, shower more often instead of taking regular baths. A bathtub requires about twice as much water compared to a five-minute shower. Those who take long showers can start here to reduce hot water consumption by shortening their shower time.
The cold water consumption can also be optimized. For example, if you notice high consumption values in connection with watering plants in the garden, on the terrace, or on the balcony, you should consider whether you might collect rainwater in a rain barrel.
We at Smart Home Swiss SA would be happy to advise you on optimizing energy consumption with Smart Home, so that you receive a practical guide for a more conscious, cost-efficient, and sustainable use of energy from abstract consumption data.

The relative humidity should be a maximum of 50 percent to avoid mold indoors. However, other factors also play a role in mold formation, such as so-called thermal bridges, for example in the corners of living rooms or at windows, where surfaces cool down and the humidity of the air there can be much higher than in the rest of the room. Objects such as furniture must also not be placed too close to the exterior walls. A distance of 10 to 15 cm is recommended here. Otherwise, there is a risk of mold formation here too, because the humidity on the cool exterior walls can be much higher than in the rest of the room due to the cooler air in these areas.
If the electric vehicle enables bidirectional charging and a corresponding charging station has been installed, the electric vehicle battery can also be used as storage for self-generated solar energy.
