Open, vendor-independent and modular system architecture.

Open platform for custom solutions (Smart Home API)

Smart Home Swiss offers an open platform with API and cloud interfaces for integrations and project-specific solutions.

Open platform for custom solutions (Smart Home API)

Modern building automation reaches its full potential through the seamless connection of different systems, including those from different manufacturers. For this reason, Smart Home Swiss SA relies on an open, vendor-independent and modular system architecture.

By providing local APIs (Smart Home API) and cloud interfaces for our browser-based web management platform «Cockpit» and our Amika control panel, third-party systems can be easily integrated and custom applications implemented—from building automation with smart home and energy management to access control and business management systems.

Modular software architecture

Our software architecture is based on a modular API concept with clearly separated communication, data and service layers. This allows new functions and third-party systems to be added at any time without affecting existing installations. At the same time, performance, data security and maintainability are preserved in the long term.

The available interfaces are continuously expanded to integrate additional systems and technologies. With our own plug-in for Home Assistant, we also create a link to the open-source community and enable the integration of a wide range of additional devices and applications. This keeps the platform open to new technologies and ensures it can be adapted and expanded to meet future requirements over the long term.

Thanks to the modular design and the use of Docker containers, individual services can be expanded, maintained and updated independently of one another. This means for the entire platform:

  • high availability
  • easy maintenance
  • long-term scalability

Efficient data capture and visualisation

The consumption data from water, heat and electricity meters (including photovoltaics, if available) is automatically captured and processed.

Via secure HTTPS interfaces or local system connections, the collected consumption data flows directly into the Amika control panel, where it is clearly visualised for the user.

High-performance cloud infrastructure

The Smart Home Swiss Cloud is the central link between building automation, Amika control panels, mobile devices and external third-party systems. The scalable cloud architecture enables secure communication, management and monitoring of all devices and projects in real time.

  • Key functions: processing consumption data, user authentication, distribution of firmware updates and push notifications, and handling audio, video and door communication
  • Real-time synchronisation: seamless data synchronisation between Amika, «Cockpit» and mobile devices
  • Modern cloud technology: HTTPS, WebSockets, SIP and PostgresSQL
  • Secure hosting in Switzerland: The Swiss cloud platform Exoscale that we use enables low latency, high availability and data storage in line with Swiss standards.

Open data integration and system connectivity

Via open interfaces, energy and consumption values (electricity, heat, water, etc.) from various third-party systems are automatically captured, validated and assigned to the respective apartments or buildings.

  • Standard formats & provider IDs: support for standardised data formats and custom assignments via provider IDs
  • Flexible mapping structure: enables connection of external systems such as energy management, billing or building management systems without adapting the core software
  • Cross-manufacturer: We connect systems—including those from different manufacturers—precisely tailored to your project.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Smart Home API and building automation

Which interfaces are available in Smart Home Swiss building automation solutions for connecting third-party systems?

For our browser-based web management platform «Cockpit» and our Amika control panel, we provide both local APIs (Smart Home API) and cloud-based HTTPS interfaces to flexibly integrate third-party systems. We will be pleased to provide further information on request. For system providers, we also offer separate technical documentation, which we will be happy to send upon request.

All data is stored exclusively in Switzerland, on the Exoscale cloud platform.

Yes, thanks to the flexible mapping structure, external systems for electricity, heat, water, etc. can be connected without adapting the core software.

Thanks to the modular software architecture and the use of Docker containers, individual updates can be deployed independently of one another without affecting the overall system.

No, the Smart Home Swiss building automation platform is designed to be vendor-independent. In this way, we create cross-manufacturer end-to-end solutions that are scalable in the long term.
